Abstract

The central objective of this work is to carry out a 2D hydraulic analysis with Newtonian flows and 2D with non-Newtonian flows of a debris flow in the Liboriana creek of the Municipality of Salgar, where in 2015 a large event occurred affecting life and the property, for this two-dimensional hydraulic simulation exercise we use the HEC-RAS 6.2 software. The results of the 2D Newtonian model with flow increased by 40% and the results of the 2D non-Newtonian model are compared against the flood stain of the real event of the year 2015.

We found that the scenario modeled using non-Newtonian flow is an alternative that makes it possible to have a better approximation regarding the behavior of a debris flow, since it was the scenario that best approximated the affected area and real flood widths. Allowing us to conclude that this approximation is due to the model considers the rheological characteristics of the flow (concentration and viscosity); On the other hand, the models that are increased in flow are quite conservative scenarios that generally show larger flooding areas, greater flow velocities and depths, since they do not consider the characteristics or properties of the sediment.
